Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure where skin under and/or over the eyelids is cut a way and removed to tighten up the skin and remove wrinkles. It's often referred to as "having your eyes done." I have always thought of this procedure as being totally safe until one day someone very close to me had this done. After a week, she called me and told me that her eyes were dry. She asked me if I knew of a good eyedrop and of course I did. I was concerned and asked her a lot of questions but she brushed it away by saying that she was told this was only temporary and it would be fine soon. As of this writing, she still has dry eyes. She had skin removed above and below both eyes during this procedure. She doubled her chances of creating a disruption of proper eyelid closure. If the eyelids cannot properly close, then they cannot lubricate the eye fully with each blink. There is also a problem with sleep because the eyelids cannot close completely. If I had known of this I could have advised her fully. There is more of a risk with this procedure than people realize.

Botox and Dry Eyes

Botox is derived from the poison manufactured by the bacteria, Clostridium, a bacteria so deadly that infected people usually die from the toxins. One form of Clostridium infection is called Botulism. Botox is routinely used to kill rats and other pests.

Astonishingly, human beings are choosing to have Botox injected into their foreheads and around the eyes to smooth out wrinkles. Unfortunately, the side effects can be devastating. There are many documented cases of dry eye and other eye disorders resulting from Botox injections. For many people their dry eyes get better when the Botox wears off. However, this is not the case for everyone. Again, there is a big risk involved. Is the vanity of a few less wrinkles worth the risk of potentially years of chronic pain?
